Abstract

The aim of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the imaging quality of the HyperSight CBCT system compared to conventional kV-CBCT, using the Head, Pelvis, and Thorax protocols.

Materials and Methods: The Catphan phantom was imaged on two TrueBeam accelerators-equipped with the HyperSight CBCT system and a conventional kV-CBCT system, respectively. High-contrast and low-contrast resolution, image noise, signal-to-noise ratio, uniformity, and consistency of HU values for standard material inserts were assessed.

Results: Compared to conventional kV-CBCT, the HyperSight CBCT system demonstrated lower noise, higher SNR, and better image uniformity in all analyzed protocols. The Head protocol also achieved better high-contrast resolution and improved visibility of low-contrast objects at 1.0% contrast. Analysis of HU values revealed differences in the imaging of individual materials, with conventional kV-CBCT typically achieving higher HU values, particularly for Teflon and Delrin. Low-contrast resolution depended on the protocol used.

Conclusions: HyperSight CBCT improved selected image quality parameters compared to conventional kV-CBCT, particularly noise, SNR, uniformity, and some resolution parameters. The extent of improvement depended on the acquisition protocol and the parameter assessed, confirming the need for separate evaluation of each clinical protocol.
