Submission Preparation ChecklistAs part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Conflict of interests
All authors must disclose their conflicts of interest, whether financial or in relations with people or organisations, that might affect the content of the paper. A potential conflict of interest occurs, among others, in the event of employment, consultancy, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent application/registration, grants or other projects related to financing.
Contribution of particular authors should be indicated:
principal contribution to the concept and design of the paper,
data collection and interpretation,
statistical analysis and preparation of study results for analysis,
critical review in terms of significant intellectual contents,
collection of references,
approval of the final version for publication.
Submission of the paper implies that:
a) the article has not been published before (except for abstracts or parts of lectures and doctoral dissertations),
b) the article has not been submitted to any other editor,
c) Publication is approved by all authors or by relevant authorities of the unit where the study was conducted and, in the case of acceptance for publication, it will not be published in any other journal, including in an electronic form, in English or other languages, without written knowledge of the copyright holder.
Changes to authorship
Before publication of the accepted article: any requests to change, delete or add an author of the paper must be sent to our Editorial Board by the corresponding author and must include:
a) reason for deletion, addition or rearrangement in the author list,
b) written (e-mail, fax, letter) confirmation of the change by the authors. Additionally, if an author is added or deleted, confirmation from that author.
Requests sent by authors, other than the corresponding author, will be sent to the corresponding author according to the above procedure.
After publication: Requests to add, remove or rearrange the author list are subject to the same procedure and rules as described above but lead to the publication of an erratum.
Clinical trial results
In line with the position of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, a journal will not consider results posted in the clinical trials registry to be prior publication if the results have been presented in the form of a brief (less than 500 words) abstract or table.
However, the disclosure of the results in other circumstances (e.g. investor meetings) is not recommended and may undermine the credibility of the manuscript. Authors should fully disclose to editors all posting in registries of results of the same or closely related work.
Reporting of clinical study results
All randomised trials (blinded) should include a completed Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) flow chart. More information available at http://www.consort-statement.org
Our journal has adopted the position of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors that requires a trial to be registered in public registry as a necessary condition launch the publication process. Clinical trials need to be registered prior to or during the inclusion of the patient. Number of the trial should be entered at the end of the article’s abstract. A clinical trial is defined as any trial that prospectively assigns a human or group of humans to health care intervention(s) to determine a cause-effect relationship between the intervention and outcome. Such interventions include any biomedical or other modifications related to the causes of diseases (e.g. Drugs, surgical procedures, devices, behavioural therapies, diets, changes in the process of care ). Health outcomes that involve any biomedical or other health-related measures obtained from patients or trial participants, including pharmacokinetic measures and adverse events/activities. Purely observational study (where medical interventions are not performed by the researcher) do not require registration. More information available at http://www.icmje.org.
All authors of the paper have to give their written consent for its publication. Statement of the first author that all co-authors have read the work and given their consent to have it published shall also be accepted. Upon acceptance of a paper for publication, all the rights to use it will be transferred to the journal owner and their copyrights. The paper may not have been published by any other publisher.
After being published, the paper remains to be the property of the Greater Poland Cancer Centre and any use of it, in whole or in part, regardless of a carrier or language, is only possible subject to a written consent.
Subscribers may reproduce tables of contents or prepare lists of articles including abstracts for internal circulation within their institutions. Permission of the Publisher is required for resale or distribution outside the institution and for all other derivative actions, including compilations and translations.
If excerpts from other copyrighted works are included, the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s) in the article.
Role of the funding source
You are requested to identify who provided financial support for the conduct of the research and/or preparation of the article and to briefly describe the role of the sponsor(s), if any, in study design; collection, analysis and interpretation of data; writing of the report; and in the decision to submit the paper for publication. If no funding is used, information to this effect should also be given.
Authors are requested to write their articles in English.
Any patient personal details included in the article and other supplementary materials (including figures and video files) must be removed, unless the patient (or his/her legal guardian) gives his/her written consent for such details to be used.

When submitting his/her paper, the author is requested to provide details (name and email address) of two suggested reviewers. The Editorial Board reserves the right to decide whether or not to use the suggested reviewers in the review process.
Articles are assessed for their technical substance and presentation of new observations regarding research, new way of thinking and contribution to the development of research, change of clinical practice and new perception of a disease. By submitting a paper, all authors agree for that paper to be published. Corresponding author’s signature on the application letter implies that the requirement is met.
Submitted articles are first reviewed by editors. Those of insufficient value are immediately rejected. An incomplete set of documents or articles which are not prepared in compliance with the standards will be returned to authors before review with a notice of errors. Registered articles are sent to be reviewed by independent experts. Elsevier encourages authors to provide details of suggested reviewers, however, reserving the right to select other experts. The review process usually takes one to three weeks. Submitted works are accepted for publication by the Editorial Board following positive opinion of independent reviewers.
Authors who have used materials from other sources must enclose a written permission for reproduction from their author and editor. This also applies to a paper which is being prepared for publication or yet unpublished article or communication.
The journal’s Chief Editor and Scientific Board take all efforts not to publish any misleading or inconsistent information, opinions or statements. However, the Editorial Board take no responsibility for data, opinions, statements and advertisements which represent the expression of authors’, sponsors’ or advertisers’ personal views and knowledge. Therefore, the Chief Editor, Scientific Board and the Publisher hold no responsibility for or take no consequences of the information, opinions and statements presented. The Editorial Board take all efforts to ensure that drug doses and other units of measure are stated correctly. Nevertheless, it is suggested that doses should be verified with information provided by market authorisation holders in registration documents applicable in a given country.
Use of word processing software
It is important that the file be saved in the native format of the word processor used. The text should be in single-column format. Keep the layout of the text as simple as possible. Most formatting codes will be removed and replaced on processing the article. In particular, do not use the word processor's options to justify text or to hyphenate words. However, do use bold face, italics, subscripts, superscripts, etc. When preparing tables, use only one grid for each individual table. If no grid is used, use tabs, not spaces, to align columns.
Make sure that source files of figures, tables and text graphics are enclosed with the article, also when sending a corrected version, i.e. with reviewers’ comments taken into account. For more information on artwork, see also the section on electronic artwork.
To avoid unnecessary errors, please, use the 'spell-check' and 'grammar-check' functions of your word processor.
Structure of article
The article should be clearly divided into sections. Each subsection should include a title in a separate line. Subsections should be used as often as possible so that the author could refer to subsections rather than whole article.
State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.
Materials and methods
Provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be reproduced. Methods already published should be indicated by a reference: only relevant modifications should be described.
Results should be clear and concise. SI units should be used.
That section should extend, not repeat, the importance of the study results. It is often appropriate combine Results and Discussion. Extensive quotations and published literature analyses should be avoided in this section.
The main conclusions of the study may be presented in a this section. It may stand alone or form a subsection of a Discussion or Results sections.
Title page – necessary information
Title in English (up to 150 characters – including letters and spaces). Concise and informative. Titles are often used in databases and information-retrieval systems. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible.
A short title to be placed in the heading, not longer than 40 characters (including letters and spaces).
Author names and affiliations (authors’ full name(s) and family name(s) – first name, initial of the second name, family name). If the name is ambiguous (e.g. hyphenated name), please take due account. Authors’ full affiliation addresses (where the actual work was done) below the names. Indicate all affiliations with a lower-case superscript letter immediately after the author's name. Provide the full name of the institution(s) or unit(s) where the work was done.
Corresponding author should be clearly indicated to handle correspondence at all stages of publication, also post-publication. Ensure that telephone and fax numbers (with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address. Data must be valid.
Valid/permanent address If an author has moved since the work described in the article was done, or was visiting at the time, a 'Present address' (or 'Permanent address') may be indicated as a footnote. The address at which the author actually did the work must be retained as the main, affiliation address. Superscript Arabic numerals are used for such footnotes.
A concise and factual abstract is required in Polish and English (250 characters each) where the author states briefly the purpose of the research, principal results and major conclusions. An should be so designed that it can be presented separately. Avoid references, but if essential, then cite the author(s) and year(s). Non-standard or uncommon abbreviations can be used, but must be defined at their first mention.
For original articles only, it is necessary for the abstract to be divided into five sections:
Introduction, Aim, Materials and methods, Results, Conclusion
Data stated in the abstract must also occur in the text and tables.
Five keywords or short phrases in English should be placed at the bottom of the title page. It is suggested that terms according to Index Medicus (Medical Subject Headings) should be used. Key words may not be a repetition of the title
Each abbreviation, both English and Polish, should be defined at its first use, whether in the main text or abstract. Abbreviations should be consistent throughout the text. If there is a large number of terms, a separate glossary may be used.
Place acknowledgements at the end of the article before the references, in a separate section. Please, do not place them in the beginning of the text, on the title page. List those individuals who provided help during the research (e.g., providing help in access to data, proofreading, linguistic revision, etc.).
Make sure you use uniform lettering and sizing of your original artwork.
Text should be saved as illustration or font enclosed
The only accepted fonts are: Arial, Courier, Times, Symbol.
Number the illustrations according to their sequence in the text – figures with Arabic numerals, tables with Roman numerals
References must be made in the text to particular illustrations and tables.
Provide a list of illustrations in a separate file.
Submit each illustration as a separate file.
Regardless of the application used, when your electronic artwork isfinalized, please 'Save as' or convert the images to one of the following formats (note the resolution requirements for line drawings, halftones, and line/halftone combinations given below):
EPS: vector drawings; embed all used fonts or save thefile as “graphics”.
TIFF: Colour or grayscale photographs (halftones), keep to a minimum of 300 dpi.
TIFF: Bitmapped line drawings, keep to a minimum of 1000 dpi.
TIFF: Combinations bitmapped line/half-tone (colour or grayscale), keep to a minimum of 500 dpi.
If the electronic version of the artwork is made in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), its format should not be changed.
Please do not:
Supply files in GIF, BMP, PICT, WPG formats as their resolution is low.
Supply files that are too low in resolution.
Submit graphics that are disproportionately large.
Ensure that each illustration has a caption. Supply captions in a separate file in Polish and English. A caption should comprise a brief title and a description of the illustration Keep text in the illustrations to a minimum but explain all symbols and abbreviations used.
The sequence of tables should be consistent with the sequence of the text. Place any table notes below the table body. Vertical rulers should be avoided. Be sparing in the use of tables and ensure that the data presented in them do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article.
Citation in text
Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). Any references cited in the abstract must be given in full. Unpublished results and personal communications are not recommended in the reference list, but may be mentioned in the text. If these references are included in the reference list, they should follow the standard reference style of the journal and should include the publication date. Citation of a reference as ‘in press press’ implies that the item has been accepted for publication.
As a minimum, the full URL should be given and the date when the reference was last accessed. Any further information, if known (DOI, author names, dates, reference to a source publication, etc.), should also be given. Web references can be listed separately (e.g., after the reference list) under a different heading if desired, or can be included in the reference list.
References in a special issue
Please ensure that the words 'this issue' are added to any references in the list (and any citations in the text) to other articles in the same Special Issue.
Text: each reference should be marked in the text with an Arabic numeral in a square bracket (no superscript or subscript).
List: references should be arranged in the order of their occurrence in the text.
