Abstract

Positron emission tomography/computed tomography using the radiopharmaceutical fluorine-18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG PET-CT) has been recognized as useful method of colorectal cancer staging, restaging, and therapy planning. The 18F-FDG PET-CT technique seems to be particularly helpful in colorectal cancer staging considering the possibility of a whole-body imaging during one acquisition. The method of choice in the evaluation of colorectal cancer is MRI, however, the PET-CT technique is used in case of ambiguity of the obtained results or the necessity to exclude the presence of distant metastases to the skeletal system or distant organs.
