Abstract

Single-fraction SRS stereotactic radiosurgery is commonly used for brain tumors and intracranial metastases. It uses high-dose ionizing radiation while sparing healthy tissues. The aim of this study was to present and analyze the modern HyperArc stereotactic technique implemented on a classic linear accelerator with an MLC multileaf collimator. HyperArc is a special type of VMAT  (Volumetric modulated arc therapy) technique that is an alternative solution to stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). It enables the use of the isocentric technique for the simultaneous irradiation of many tumors in the brain area on a classic linear accelerator with a multileaf MLC collimator and also allows you to set different dose values for individual tumors in one treatment plan. Through  optimization, we avoid high doses in healthy tissue and between target volumes. Compared to other stereotactic techniques, it enables a much shorter irradiation time, similar to the treatment time in dynamic VMAT or IMRT Intensity modulated radiation therapy) techniques.
